The article deals with new archive data related to the life and activities of Andriy Ivanovych Lopushansky, the head of the Department of General Chemistry in 1953-1976 as his scientific results turned very important for Chernivtsi Medical Institute. Methods. The methods of retrospection and comparative study were used in this investigation. Scientific novelty: An influ- ence of personality and activities of A. I. Lopushansky on develop- ment of a scientific concept of the Dept. of Gen. Chemistry in the field of organic chemistry (targeted organic synthesis of new sub- stances with possible pharmaceutical activity) is discussed. This work has greatly contributed into building a scientific authority of the Institute. Conclusions. A scientific school for the synthesis of new antimicrobial compounds, well-known in Ukraine and abroad was formed as a result of the 23-years long scientific activities of A. I. Lopushansky and the general recognition was given to the scientific findings by A. I. Lopushansky and his co-workers related to the synthesis of decamethoxin and some other antimicrobial agents.
