The field of Moldovan book illustration in the second half of the twentieth century marked a period of fruitful development, attesting, in the mid-1970s, a distinct maturity, at the national school level, in the conceptual approach and artistic interpretation of literary subjects. In this context, the artistic contribution of the following graphic artists stands out: Il. Bogdesco, L. Grigoraşenco, B. Nesvedov, I. Vieru, F. Hămuraru, I. Cîrmu, Gh. Vrabie, P. Mudrac, A. Hmelnițchi, I. Nifaşev, A. Usov, L. Beleaev, B. Brînzei, A. Colîbneac, O. Zemțov, M. Brunea, L. Sainciuc, V. Malearenco, M. Șevelchin, V. Zmeev, G. Bosenco, V. Bulba, A. Smîșleaev, A. Sveatcenko, I. Severin, M. Brunea, V. Movileanu, O. Cojocaru, V. Coroban, E. Leșcu and others. Starting with the last decade of the 20th century, in the field of book graphics, as in other artistic areas, the predilections for thematic approaches and compositional solutions of postmodernist vision is widely felt, often in a symbolic, nonfigurative or abstract way; for unconventional graphic figuration techniques, often mixed or experimental, suitable for enciphering the artistic image in an abstract language.
