The present study analyzed the application of the Driving Forces-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) model as a decision-making tool for the development of effective public policy, based on the production of maps and the formulation of proposals that aim to improve the quality of life of the population of the Guaribas basin, in northeastern Brazil. The model emphasizes the analysis of the eco-systemic and anthropogenic relationships that constitute the natu-ral systems present within the study area. The appropriation of space within the Guaribas basin is the result of the ongoing urbani-zation process, which creates major inequalities in the use of coastal space. Overall, the DPSIR model proved highly effective for the integrated analysis of the socio-environmental problems affect-ing the Guaribas basin.
