A list of words which designate objects used by a Greek player cited by the lexicographer Pollux in Onomasticon (X, 150 Bethe) allows us to study words for which the etymology is both clear (ἀστράγαλος, ψῆφος), and unknown or uncertain (ἄβαξ, τηλία, κόσκινον, κύβος, φιμός, κημός, κήθιον, πεσσοί).
