How eating gluten may be associated with various disorders of human health including neurological diseases remains a topic of discussion in the academic and civil circles. Application of gluten-free diet is of particular interest for the complex management of diseases such as autism, schizophrenia, and borderline neurological disorders including chronic fatigue syndrome, various cognitive impairments, depression, etc. The article presents a review of the studies of efficacy of gluten-free diet in patients with various neurological diseases and psychiatric disorders; the potential mechanisms of the neurotropic action of gluten are also examined.
