Altered Mental Status in an Adolescent Patient

Abstract

Abstract This is a fully interactive manikin-based simulation scenario on intentional clonidine overdose. In this case, a 16-year-old patient is brought to the adult emergency department from an affiliated pediatric section for a CT scan due to a recent fall where he struck his head with about 2 minutes of loss of consciousness and continued complaints of a headache. In transit to the CT scanner, the patient becomes obtunded and develops apnea. This publication includes the critical actions checklists, lab values, images, and evaluation tools needed to implement this simulation for undergraduate and graduate medical trainees and staff, nurses, and paramedics.
