CARIES RISK ASSESMEN FOR STUDENTS AT SDN SUNGAI JINGAH 1, BANJARMASIN CITY

The prevalence of dental and oral problems according to data from Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 was 57.6%. The percentage of Indonesian people who experience dental caries is 45.3%, while the people of South Kalimantan who experience dental caries is 46.9%. Children in the 10-14 year age group experience 47.7% of dental caries in South Kalimantan. This type of research is descriptive research which is research that tries to explore how and why health phenomena occur. The approach method used is cross sectional, which is research to study the dynamics of risk factors and effects, by means of approach, observation or data collection. This survey measures the level of caries risk for each respondent using the Caries Assessment Tools (CAT) by considering age and gender regarding the levels of cariogenic snacks. It shows that the level of consumption of cariogenic snacks among students in grades 4, 5 and 6 at SDN Sungai Jingah is in the low and medium categories. Male student in 12th year old have the highest levels of cariogenic snacks with a low risk of caries, 7 people with a percentage of (87.5%). Many factors can cause dental caries in children, including factors in the mouth that are directly related to the process of dental caries, including tooth structure, tooth morphology, the arrangement of the teeth in the jaw, the degree of acidity of saliva, oral hygiene which is related to frequency and habits. brushing teeth. Apart from that, there are external factors as predisposing and inhibiting factors which are indirectly related to the occurrence of dental caries, including knowledge, attitudes and behavior towards maintaining dental health such as the habit of brushing teeth.
