Background: Brainstem gliomas are a special type of head and neck tumors, mostly seen in children and adolescents, the re-operation and radiotherapy are not good after progression and recurrence, prognosis is poorer, and survival cycle is shorter; This manuscript introduced a case of recurrent brainstem glioma patient treated with sonodynamic therapy. Case description: An eleven years old child was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma in the brain stem. After radiotherapy, chemotherapy and anti-vascular therapy, the disease progressed twice; After sonodynamic therapy (SDT), the tumor continued to shrink, and the condition was stable during one year without further progression. Conclusion: Sonodynamic therapy can inhibit the progression of brain tumors, its safety and effectiveness are worthy of confirmation. It is expected to be another mean of treatment for initial diagnosed and multiple progressive brain tumors.
