Economic Value of Indigenous Vegetables for Older Persons in Papai Municipality, Sansai District, Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

The number of older persons is growing rapidly in Thailand. The country should realize it is an “ageing society” according to seniors will become the significant players to develop the country economy in the future. Therefore, this research aims to estimate the consumptive direct use value of indigenous vegetables which were planted by seniors in Papai municipality, San Sai district, Chiang Mai province by Net Village Product (GVP) model. The result showed that the total consumptive direct use value of indigenous vegetables in 2020 equaled more than THB 4.20 million. Nevertheless, promoting seniors to grow indigenous vegetables not only reduces their household spending but also stimulated them to exercise
