Lino Guedes: de filho de ex-escravo à "elite de cor"
Abstract
This article presents some aspects of the life trajectory of Lino Guedes (1897- 1951), giving special attention to his role in the newspaper Progress. From the paths (and strayings) taken by this journalist, poet and black activist, one can learn that - despite all the difficulties, tensions, ambiguities and contradictions - a portion of the descendants of Africans in the Brazilian diaspora gained social and cultural status without having to dispense with their racial consciousness.
