Antianemic activity of quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd) Collana Negra variety and kanihua (Chenopodium pallidicaule Aellen) Ramis variety seed flour in anemic rats
Abstract
Highlights Extruded quinoa flour of the Negra Collana variety and kanihua variety of Ramis are novel nutraceutical ingredients in food design and antianemic of food origin. Extruded flour of quinoa variety Negra Collana and kanihua variety Ramis at a dose of 360 mg/kg every 24 h orally for twelve weeks showed a significant increase in hematocrit levels of 24.5 ± 0.5% and 22.2 ± 0.3%, respectively (p ≤ 0.05) in anemic rats. Extruded quinoa flour of the Negra Collana variety and kanihua variety Ramis showed improvement in the signs and symptoms of anemia such as lethargy, hair loss, apathy, and lack of appetite, weight, height, and BMI in anemic rats. Increased weight, height, BMI, and motor activity in rats without anemia.
