The present article is devoted, in a first part, to the study of the process of creation of the poem “Reconhecimento de Nêmesis”, written in1926 and published fifteen years later in the section “A Costela do Grã-Cão” of the book Poesias. Excerpts from the active and passive correspondence participate in the archive of the creation of the poem and contribute to the analysis and interpretation of the verses. In the second part, we present a comparative study of “Reconheciemnto de Nêmesis” with Padre Jesuíno de Monte Carmelo, a work of posthumous publication, written in the 1940s, while Mário de Andrade worked with SPHAN and sought an expression of baroque art in the state of Sao Paulo. The approach of the poem and the prose text is possible especially because the writer, twenty years later, in the romance of the baroque painter, replicates the main image of the poem, the “brown hand”, a metaphor in the work of the modernist that indicates aspects of psychology Of the Brazilian mestizo.
