The Discourse Analysis of the Equality and Employment from the Perspective of the Eleventh Government in Iran
Abstract
Equality is a challenging concept in the women’s field and one of the products of modern times. The emergence of modernity, the centrality of man, and the importance of his freedom and individuality, has become the pretext for women to enjoy the fruits of modernity and has created the movement for the realization of women’s rights. Equality became the main demand of women’s movements since unequal conditions and the deprivation of opportunities were considered the most important reasons for women’s inferiority. The introduction of this concept into non-Western countries, regardless of the underlying principles of this concept and its conflict with their culture and ethnicity, resulted in conflicts and adverse consequences in providing services for women. In Iranian society, the greatest emphasis on equality in the Reformist Government, and in the current Government of Moderation is in employing women, and this shows a kind of setback regardless of the consequences of the policies of the 11th Government in Iran. The study of this process was done by analyzing Ruth Wodak’s social-historical discourse, which is a branch of critical discourse analysis. The findings indicated that the measures taken to employ women in the Eleventh Government were to revive the concept of equality in a manner that remained unfinished in the Reform Government. It seems that women’s employment is the best and most justified means to pursue the equality for women, and the next step is to seek a share in the political positions.
