IFIGÊNIA TRANSCULTURAL: UM CASO DE TRADUÇÃO CULTURAL
Abstract
This essay focuses on the “survival” of greek-roman humanism, in the film The Killing of a Sacred Deer, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (2017), which reinvents the greek myth of Iphigenia, benefiting from a particular process of transference (of ideas, values, symbol etc.) via cultural translation. To discuss Lanthimos´ film, we selected two cultural elements: (1) the artemisian sign, introducing the presence of Artemis in the film´s plot and in the new roles created in it; and (2) the paradox of the child sacrifice behind the scenes.
