In this article we will discuss the developments of the investigation of Augusto Boal and his Aesthetics of the Oppressed in the 21st century. We will address two parallel and interconnected legacies from a reflection on the social and political context Brazil is currently inserted.; the first, associated with political-social theater experiences such as the case of the Theatre of the Oppressed make for the Brigada Nacional de Teatro Patativa do Assaré, from Movimiento dos Trabalhadores sem Terra (Landless Workers Movement) founded in 2001; and the second, the one focused on the aesthetic and creative work of professional theater companies, such as the Cia. do Latão that in 2015 brought through a critical, contextualized and contemporary look, the ideas, theories and artistic works of Boal to the Brazilian theater scene.
