Social ethics and the dignity of human life: epistemic reach in societyAbstractThis chapter is about memories - and obliterations – of slavery in the city of Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. From the perspective of historical anthropology, it investigates the ways in which the history and practice of slavery seem less “remembered” in that city, although it was a proved trade, and carried out during the nineteenth century. It also explores the articulation of these memorial obliterations, concerning nowadays the discursive speech of slavery. This usage occurs in diverse circumstances, such as the domestic environment and the sphere of work, and mainly in the economic atmosphere. Finally, we propose several hypotheses regarding this resurgence discourse. Keywords: Slavery; Santa Marta; slave trade.
