THE SCREAMING AND THE SILENCE OF THOSE WHO ARE VOICELESS

Abstract

Our essay studies the powerlessness and the loneliness in the novel Vidas secas (Droughty lives), by Graciliano Ramos, in the painting La Paye des Moissonneurs (Paying the reapers), by Lon-Augustin Lhermitte, and in the painting Festa de So Joo (Feast of St. John), by Cndido Portinari. We dont necessarily aim to search the causes of that powerlessness and loneliness, but as they occur and are formally worked in the three works mentioned.
