The article presents the results of research conducted among teachers about their functioning in the profession. Modern school teacher confronts many requirements. There are discrepancies between the expectations of teachers and school reality. The study has targeted 68 primary school teachers, who pointed out both professional successes as well as failures. They assessed the situation in the contemporary school, writing about the difficulties they have to face, and the dreams associated with the profession. The results show that teachers are critical of their situation. They have the awareness of the factors affecting the school reality. At the same time, they emphasize the satisfaction they get by working with children. The conclusions that can be drawn from the study are, among others, appreciation of the importance of pedagogical practice of future teachers and the improvement of social skills of students and already working teachers.
