Seven Cold Cities: The Milonga of Vitor Ramil
Abstract
This article analyzes popular composer Vitor Ramil's work in the musical genre of milonga. The article argues that the structural syncopation of the rhythmic cell in milonga brings leveza, or lightness, to the music, one of the qualities Ramil identifies as guiding principles in his "aesthetics of cold." The article places Ramil's exploration of milonga in the context of his long, varied and continuously evolving career.
