The article discussed the issues of artistic interpretation on the example of the choral cycle “Dedication to Marina Tsvetaeva” by S. Gubaidulina. The process of a performer working on a piece of music is a gradual penetration into its content, into the world of his artistic images, in accordance with the dialectic of cognition. The need for a comprehensive study of musical composition, which provides for the synthesis of various general humanitarian and musical-theoretical disciplines, is affirmed. The leading paradigm of multimodal analysis is polyphony. This study shows that the technique of polyphonic writing in a’cappella choral music is revealed by S. Gubaidulina in the synthesis of poetic word and musical text; studies genre prototypes of each part of the cycle; analyzes the types of polyphonic technique from the point of view of tradition and innovation, presents a contextual analysis of modern choral composition. In the polyphonic thinking of Sofia Gubaidulina as a representative of the Russian musical avant-garde of the 20th century, the traditions of vocal polyphony of the Renaissance and various writing techniques of the 20th century were intertwined.
