Karyotypic and idiogram studies were preformed using male predaceous spear-headed katydid, Palaeoagraecia brunnea (Ingrisch, 1998), and male bluish-green rice grasshopper, Hieroglyphus banian (Fabricius, 1798), collected from Lamphun and Chiang Mai provinces in Northern Thailand . The mitotic chromosomes were directly prepared from gut tissue and male testis tissue by colchicine-hypotonic-fixation techniques and stained by conventional staining 20% (v/v) Giemsa working solution. Chromosomes were observed under compound light microscope (1,000 times). The results showed that the diploid chromosome number of the male Palaeoagraecia brunnea was 2n=13, including 12 autosomes and 1 X chromosome. The karyotype formula of the male Palaeoagraecia brunnea was deduced as: 2n (13)=Lm 12 + X (Lm) chromosome. The diploid chromosome number of the male Hieroglyphus banian was 2n=23, including 22 autosomes and 1 X chromosome. The karyotype formula of the male Hieroglyphus banian was deduced as: 2n (23)=Lt8 + Mt6 + St8 + X (Lt) chromosome.
