The impact of sanctions on the economy of the Russian IT sector

Introduction. A unique situation has developed in the Russian economy and, in particular, in the economy related to information technologies, associated with the introduction of various kinds of prohibitions and restrictions by different states and international structures. During the years of market development, integration into the global industrial and financial processes took place, national sovereignty was lost. The IT sector is strategically important due to the development of the information society and the desire of the state to digitalize the economy. Historically, this industry has been the most susceptible to globalization. Now Russia has a good chance not only to regain sovereignty in this industry, but also to get qualitative changes that will determine the economic development of the country for many years to come. Goal. Analysis and assessment of the economic consequences of the introduction of sanctions against the IT sector by the example of Russia. Materials and methods. The study is based on the analysis of the state of the economy of the IT sector before and after the imposition of sanctions, a comparison of economic indicators affecting the development of this sphere is carried out, the steps of the government of the Russian Federation to neutralize the negative impact of sanctions are considered. Results and discussion. In the course of the work, it was found that the crisis of the industry arose long before the introduction of sanctions and is of a systemic nature, restrictions only aggravated it. Despite this, the economy of the Russian IT sector is developing in line with global trends and is quite successfully, albeit slowly, returning to growth indicators. Conclusion. Having analyzed the reasons for the current situation and the impact of restrictions on the Russian IT industry, it is possible to formulate ways to overcome the backlog in the current crisis.
