EL CENTRO DE INVESTIGACIONES MARINAS Y LA CONSERVACIÓN DE LAS TORTUGAS MARINAS EN CUBA/ Marine research center and the conservation of marine turtles in Cuba
Abstract
El objetivo de la presente revisión es mostrar los resultados alcanzados durante veinteaños por especialistas del Centro de Investigaciones Marinas en el estudio de la biología y la conservación de tortugas marinas en el archipiélago cubano tanto en sitios de anidación como en los de pesquerías. Este trabajo, iniciado en la década de 1990, constituyó el primer tema de investigación científica dirigido a la conservación de especies abordado por el Centro de Investigaciones Marinas-Universidad de la Habana. En el texto se describen las once líneas de investigación y sus aportes tanto para el conocimiento de las especies como a su manejo. Finalmente, se abordan las perspectivas de trabajo que darán continuidad a las investigaciones sobre este tema, asumidas con toda prioridad a nivel de país, en particular por parte del sistema nacional de áreas protegidas. ABSTRACT The goal of the current review is to show the results achieved by specialists of the marine Research Center in the investigations about the biology and conservation of marine turtles in the Cuban archipelago both in nesting and fishery sites. This work constituted the first research issue focused on the conservation of species of CIM-UH. Eleven research lines are described and their contribution both to the knowledge and to the management of the species. Finally we analyzed work perspectives that will give continuity to this priority topic at country level, and for the protected areas national system in particular.
