What place does the historical centre of Mexico City occupy in the gigantic city it has now become? The colonial centre is a complex space, where the relationship between public and private space has been redefined. At the same time, Mexico City’s urban policy has recently changed direction. This article aims to highlight how an open, and therefore vulnerable, space could be exposed and threatened by privatisation and segregation, which are common to metropolises.
