Integrated infrastructure: A study of rehabilitation of Al-Akaider landfill
Abstract
Throughout the last decades, the world has been facing a wide variety of sudden changes in environmental issues (major climate changes, Resources running out, etc.) and in humanitarian issues (population explosion, Urbanization problems, etc.). These unexpected changes forced people to make quick reactions to adapt and settle, which resulted in further issues due to lack of planning and unequal resources distribution. These merging problems took many forms, such as underperforming architectural settlements and incompetence of infrastructure. This research investigates an approach where the integration between architecture and infrastructure can cope with sudden changes and bring up the potential of high-performance buildings and maximized potential. The study method adopted the integration approach for the main systems of architecture and the components of hard infrastructural system. It also developed a configured matrix to handle all the interdependent variables of the study. The theoretical integrative matrix is developed to turn site potentials into design decisions, and a case study of landfill rehabilitation to test the validity of the research theory. The study suggested different solutions related to renewable energy utilizations, solid water managements, and solid waste managements.
