Once migrants have settled in a country of destination, most of the times they tend to adhere or even establish migrant associations or organizations. Such voluntary associative structures can enlist members in various initiative groups, informal organizations, cultural and artistic clubs, charitable organizations, and professional foundations. Through such organizations migrants collectively maintain a link with their home country while also contributing to its development by engaging in different transnational practices, initiatives and activities that can be of political, economic or civic character. In this paper, by using the example of migrant organizations from Republic of Moldova I illustrate how in time a group of migrants can change its statute and role from being an ethnic group located outside of its country of origin into a branch of the civil society of their own country, as such becoming a „delocalized” civil society.
