Platonic doctrine of ‘nuptial number’ and its reception by Marsilio Ficino
Abstract
The article treats the origins and the reception of doctrine of ‘nuptial number’ reflected throughout the Platonic tradition. It is shown that the most prominent thinker of Florentine Platonism, Marsilio Ficino (1433-1499), using certain exegetic tools conforms this scandalous doctrine to the more conventional Renaissance account about human being at the universe.
