Offering appropriate information on the part of the doctor to the oncologic patient has proven to be difficult because of the several cultural prejudices that surround the word "cancer". In most of the cases a similar attitude is not only mistaken but harmful for the doctor-patient relationship, affecting their communication, as well as the trust and collaboration on the part of the patient. The current positions on this problem are approached through this work and some suggestions for the handling of this type of information, as well as data reflected in investigations carried out in different latitudes and in our context are exposed
