A Comunicação nos Arquivos Municipais da área metropolitana de Lisboa

Abstract

In today’s information-based society, which is driven by technological advancements, archives have been developing new methods of communication in order to satisfy users’ needs. The current situation of the 18 Municipal Archives of the Great Lisbon Area is an example to study the level of investment in communicating their information, assessing how they have adapted to the new challenges, where Internet is a fundamental tool. This quantitative and qualitative study is based on documentary, bibliographic and primary sources, paper and Internet research, through institutional websites and social networks, which was complemented through questionnaire surveys and direct observation. It was concluded, therefore, that most of these Archives add organizational value to information through communication and that although the investment levels are heterogeneous, the municipal archives of Cascais and Lisbon stand out in this scope
