Una struttura ipetra dal santuario di Campo della Fiera di Orvieto

Abstract

Fra i monumenti rinvenuti nel sito di Campo della Fiera di Orvieto (TR) è particolarmente rilevante una struttura ipetra della quale il presente studio tenta di comprendere la funzione. All’analisi strutturale segue quella dei materiali trovati nel riempimento che, seppure in giacitura secondaria, offrono uno spaccato della ritualità officiata nell’area e contribuiscono a delineare le caratteristiche sacrali e le possibili funzioni del monumento. Vengono quindi descritti i rapporti con una simile struttura presso l’Agora di Atene e definiti possibili referenti nella cultura etrusca e romana. Among the monuments found on the dig site of Campo della Fiera in Orvieto, Terni, a hypaethral structure stands out because of its relevance. This study is an attempt to understand its function. We’ll provide a structural analysis and a study of the archaeological finds from the layers that filled up the monument, which, even if they’re in a secondary context, offer a glimpse of the rituals performed in the area, and contribute to outline the sacred features and the possible functions of the structure. We will define its relationship with a similar monument in Athens Agora, and find possible comparanda in the Etruscan and Roman culture.
