Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the actions of the Royal Navy and of the english corsairs in the Tyrrhenian Sea at the time of the War of the Austrian Succession, thus highlighting the unique aspects of the european corsair war in the Mediterranean. Therefore, the war dimension has been embedded in a wider framework in which war, commerce, diplomacy and health care issues were deeply linked. The corsair war thus emerges as a manifestation of the power relations between the states taken into account: the english monarchy and the Republic of Genoa.
