The changes of the last half-century have considerably increased the dependence of States, economies and societies on maritime spaces. Small and micro-States have been strongly integrated into this maritimisation of the world, which is a corollary of globalisation, contributing to the promotion of numerous development opportunities. It has, however, considerably increased their exposure to certain risks and challenges of a maritime nature, raising many questions. The study of these small and micro-States in the Wider Caribbean region confirms that, although they are key players in the global governance of the seas and oceans, they face major multiscalar challenges in terms of maritime security. While they implement individual, but most often cooperative strategies by promoting proximity relations, these security regionalisms remain hampered by strong geopolitical fragmentation
