It was shown that free bases of asymmetric meso-substituted synthetic porphyrins possess the most high antiphytovirus activity under the dark conditions in the model system TMV- N. tabacum tissue culture. Their Zn and Mn complexes were less effective. In the same time Cu-containing symmetric substituted meso-tetra(N- methyl-4-piridyl)porphyrin tetratosilat inhibited viral infection in N. tabacum tissue culture. The assumption of possible mechanism of antiviral activity of porphyrins was made.
