Preventive socialization of gender violence
Abstract
Gender violence can be explained from different perspectives, each of which aspire to check its spread. This article presents a series of approaches that seek to eradicate gender violence by focusing on its origin and working in a preventative manner. Firstly, we examine the role played by the socialization processes that shape our social consciousness vis-à-vis emotional and sexual relationships and the existing patterns of attraction. This analysis enables us to situate the issue within the wider context of the struggle to end gender-based violence. Secondly, we analyze the contributions made by new feminist approaches in this field, and finally, we make recommendations for a preventative socialization, which may give rise to an alternative model of emotional and sexual relationships.
