AMAZÔNIA MARANHENSE: campo de conflitos e interesses
Abstract
The text approaches the resulting impacts from the implementation of big projects in MaranhãoAmazon. Marks that MaranhãoAmazon, peripheral region of Brazil, has been space of numerous development projects, especially since the 1950s. Argues that, despite the promises of development , what has occurred is a growing process of exploitation of natural resources and an intensification of social conflicts, especially those related to land issues, which makes the Maranhão figure as one of the main points of conflict in the field of Brazil. Considers that marked by the strong presence of large estates, slave labor, violence against rural leadership and extreme poverty, the agrarian question in Maranhão is a synthesis of the agrarian reality in the country.
