The present work seeks to offer a vision of the scientific production as an input for the identification of cooperation networks, using not only the records of existing articles in academic databases, but the information registered in the ScienTI platform of Colciencias, with which proposes a specific review of the activity of two research groups and that analysis is extended to the whole institution to which they belong; the alliances identified through this information are contrasted with the agreements signed by the institution, considering these as the formal cooperation link; It is found that although the formal institutional relationship is important, the relational capital with which researchers directly count represents a greater strength for the development of cooperative activity.
