The initial gas emission velocity(△p) of coal plays an important role in judging whether the coal mine has outburst hazard. By taking 77 coal samples from 77 coal mines in 13 provinces and cities across the country, 11 basic gas parameters, including the moisture, ash, volatile, true density, apparent density, porosity, atmospheric gas adsorption, gas adsorption constants a and b, coal firmness coefficient f, and initial gas release velocity △p, of the coal samples were measured in the laboratory. By using SPSS data analysis software combined with stepwise multiple linear regression method, the factors that have a significant influence on △p can be determined as atmospheric gas adsorption capacity, gas adsorption constant b and coal firmness coefficient, and atmospheric gas adsorption capacity has the most significant effect on △p. The results showed that atmospheric gas adsorption capacity and gas adsorption constant b are positively correlated with △p; f and △p are negatively correlated. Meanwhile, a multiple linear regression model has been established. The fitted correlation coefficient is 0.892.
