COPD is more than lung disease: the importance of cardiopulmonary risk

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) often go hand in hand. In addition to common risk factors, this association is also due to a partially common pathomechanism of the two diseases. The coexistence of CVD and COPD poses an increased risk of morbidity and mortality. In addition to data explaining cardiopulmonary risk, the summary paper also draws attention to common causative factors.
