IMPROVED CORN VARIETIES PERFORMANCE AND IMPACT ESTIMATES UPON USE OF SUCH IN SMALL FARMS IN MATO GROSSO DO SUL
Abstract
Twenty-two corn varieties, double hybrid and intervarieties, weresubmitted to twenty-six different environmental conditions in the center-north and southareas of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul during three agricultural years (2001/2003),seeking to evaluate the economical and technical performance of these materials forcultivation in small farms of the study areas. The experiment consisted of a randomizedblock design with four replications in each location. The trials were accomplished inareas with pH 5.0, where the plant population varied from 55,000 to 62,500 plants per hectare. Fertilizer was applied in the planting day, and nitrogen was spread during theplants developing stage. Control of insects, diseases and weeds was also done. In face ofthe results obtained in the trials, the following materials can be recommended for thecenter-north area of the state: CMS 97-27B (BRS 2020), CDX D61, CMS 200-122, AG2060, CDX D60, SHS 4040, SHS 600EX200, OC 705, AL 25, AL 30, AL BANDEIRANTEand AL 34. For the south area, the following materials are recommended: SHS4050, SHS 4040, CMS 200-122, HD 951128, AG 2060, CMS 97-27B (BRS 2020),CDX D60, GRAÚNA 183, AL 30, AL BANDEIRANTE, AL 25 and AL 34. Proving thesustainability of the small farm where corn is cultivated, the method of total budgetsdemonstrates that changes from marginal or low technological level to medium technologyresults in an effective increment in the annual net income.
