The purpose of the study We proposed an assessment of the loss of dental-periodontal integrity in menopausal and post-menopausal women, and the effect on periodontal level of the hormonal substitution therapy. Methods Patients were assessed at the onset menopause and post menopause, with and without hormone replacement therapy (upon presentation). We assessed the number of present teeth, the periodontal clinical indices (probing depth, bleeding index, presence of plaque, the clinical attachment loss) and radiological (loss of alveolar bone), following the evolution of periodontal status of the presentation over 3 years. Results It will be structured as shown here We demonstrated that patients with periodontitis, menopause and estrogen deficiency had a higher frequency of gingival bleeding and clinical attachment loss than patients who received hormonal substitution therapy. Discussion: The estrogen seems to have a protective effect on periodontal and periodontal disease severity. In addition, the alveolar bone also contributes to the beneficial actions of the hormonal substitution therapy. Conclusions This study demonstrated an increased presence of periodontal disease, of the rate of occurrence of edentulous patients and the absence of menopausal hormone replacement therapy appears to be associated with the severity of periodontal disease.
