The Importance of Coaching on Instructional Design Skills in Enhancing Educational Competencies from the Pre-Service Teachers’ Perspectives
Abstract
Instructional Design (ID) is a systematic process that reflects the translation of the theories of teaching and learning into approaches to planning and developing education. It describes the best educational methods that will help to achieve the educational goals in efficient ways. Since the quality of education depends on the teachers' aspects, it is important to consider the ID skills program as the main training program. This study aims to examine the importance of training on ID skills to enhance teachers' competencies from the teachers’ point of view, and provide a suggested model for educational competencies in the light of ID skills. To achieve the research goals, this research adopted a descriptive approach to establish a list of educational competencies and determine their relation to ID skills. Moreover, to explore the perspective of 24 teachers after they were engaged in a training program of ID skills about the importance of these skills in enhancing their educational competencies. The study found that most of the educational competencies belong to the ID skills, and the training on these skills reinforces teachers’ teaching and professional skills. The study recommends including the ID skills in any professional development training program.
