THE MOTHER TONGUE USAGE IN THE INTERACTION BETWEEN TEACHER/STUDENT DURING THE FOREIGN LANGUAGES CLASSES: A NECESSARY PRACTICE.
Abstract
Using the Mother Tongue in the Foreign Language classes, particularly in early stages of learning, is becoming necessary and valid in certain situations of interaction. This paper position is that this practice is appropriate, as long as the use of the mother tongue in a foreign language class is related to an affective atmosphere searching for the apprentices. The object presented here comes from a masters research in development that aims to consider the teacher-student interaction in the initial learning situation. Thus, in view of the various paradigms related to methods of teaching foreign languages, this study will seek some answers and try to determine which practices are the most used and what are the most effective ones, according to professionals and researches. Implementing these actions to research, we relied on the data collection made with the teachers and students of language schools in Cricima and Iara in the state of Santa Catarina, noting the extent to which gives the use of mother tongue in initial stage in the classes of foreign language; It will be also present in this analysis, a speech, comparison, in other words, the method that the teacher says he/she uses, and the method that the teacher really uses in the foreign language classes.
