The article discusses Brazilian policies against gender violence in perspective with the UN Human Rights Council discussion based on the work of the special rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences. It aims at showing an alignment between policies for women recently defined by the government of Dilma Roussef, traditional Brazilian diplomatic discourse and the point of view of the special rapporteur. This alignment ows much to third wave feminism and allows for an alliance, mutually beneficial, though rare, between Brazilian diplomatic action, on the international level, and the advancement of a feminist agenda, on the national level.
