THE ATTITUDES OF TURKISH CHILDREN WHO LIVE IN BELGIUM TOWARDS TURKISH IN TERMS OF DEMOGRAPHICAL FEATURES

This paper aims to find out the attitudes of Turkish children who live inBelgium towards Turkish in terms of demographical features. Research design ofthis study is scanning model. The participants are 198 Turkish children who tookTurkish and Turkish Culture course in 2010-2011 education year in Anvers, Gent,Genk and Brussel regions of Belgium, were chosen randomly and aged between 11-15.In order to reach data for the study, “Attitude Scale of Turkish Children WhoLive Abroad Towards Their Mother Tongues” and “Personal Information Form”,which were developed by the researchers, were used. SPSS 19.0 package programwas used for analyses. In the study the findings from the analyses were interpretedas significant with 0.05 significance level.After the research, it has been seen that the attitudes of Turkish Children wholive in Belgium towards their mother tongue are high (among the points of none, alittle, middle, high and full). Moreover, the attitudes of the Turkish children inBelgium who participated in the study towards Turkish have been revealed not tochange significantly in terms of gender, age, mother’s educational status, father’seducational status, father’s job, the frequency of going to Turkey and the length ofresidence.
