DIFFICULTIES OF FOREIGN BODY DETECTIONS IN BRONCHUS OF ADULTS
Abstract
Background. The aim of the study is to draw the attention of primary care physicians, thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists and endoscopists to the peculiarities of the diagnosis of foreign bodies and their complications in adult patients. Materials and methods. The analysis of the characteristics of foreign body detections in bronchus by publications and own clinical observation of the patient 63 years old with foreign body in bronchus complicated by lung abscess and empyema. Clinical x-ray examination was performed, including multispiral computed tomography and diagnostic fiber-optic bronchoscopy with extraction of a foreign body of the intermediate bronchus. Results and conclusions. The above material demonstrates the need for a careful analysis of complaints of patients, especially the elderly, persistent or recurrent cough, shortness of breath, comparison with the anamnesis data, prolonged pneumonia with local changes in the lungs and pleura in case of suspicion of the presence of a foreign body of the bronchus. X-ray and multispiral computed tomography of the chest do not always reveal foreign bodies of the bronchus of organic origin, but allow visualizing indirect signs of bronchopulmonary changes (atelectasis, pneumonia, abscess, etc.). If a foreign body of the bronchus is suspected, persistent searches for it with the help of repeated bronchoscopes are shown.
