During floristic investigations of eastern Serbia (foothills of the Stara Planina Mountains near Minićevo, Turjačka Glama hill), Ephedra distachya (Ephedraceae) was discovered as a species new for the vascular flora of Serbia. An overview of the family, genus, and species is given in the present paper. In addition, two phytocoenological relevés recorded in the species habitat are classified at the alliance level. The IUCN threatened status of the population in Serbia is assessed as Critically Endangered
