The interest behind this paper is to shed light on an intellectual production limited to the medieval Islamic world, an under-explored space-time in the historiography of geography but rich contributions to the advancement of this area of human knowledge. To achieve this objective, it is proposed to carry out an analysis according to which the geographical knowledge developed by the then Muslim scholars was based on three pillars, namely: a devotion to Islam, the incessant search for knowledge and the practice of Rihla, the latter being one of the key means to achieve the previous two.
