Correlación de las pruebas de susceptibilidad a la caries: índices clínicos de caries e ingesta de sacarosa en niños escolares de 9 a 11 años en Caldas, Antioquia, Colombia
Abstract
In the present work we studied, the correlation between sucrose intake and caries (DFs), in 195 school children between the age of 9 to 11 years old from Caldas, Antioquia, Colombia. In the same sample, parallel works wers conducted to study salivary buffer capacity, and the saluvary counts of "mutans" Streptococci, Lactobacilli and Candida. This population didn't have flouride in the water suply, but have preventive annual program of topical fluoride, a regular oral higiene (Plaque index 134.9 gr/day) with frecuency of 7 times per day. The boys had showd a tendency to have more intake (138.8 gr/day) than the girls (112gr p=0.05). The total daily intake of sucrose was mostly due to beverage. In general there weren't correlation between DFs and sucrose intake. In parallel studies sucrose intake didn´t correlate with other varibales, shown only a tendency to correlate with "mutans" streptococci and only in the high caries group with Lactobacilli.
