Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of tincture of compound Flos Sophorae and Fructus Posraleae in combination with NB-UVB for stable sporadic vitiligo. Methods: A total of 190 cases of stable sporadic vitiligo were randomly divided into the treatment and control groups. Both groups were treated with topical BaiXiao tincture, fluticasone propionate cream and NB-UVB for 6 months. But ethanol extracts of Flos Sophorae and Platycladus orientalis were added to BaiXiao tincture for the treatment group. The clinical efficacy was evaluated after 3- and 6-month treatments. Results: After 3- and 6-month treatments, the total effective rates in the treatment group were 58.76%, 83.51%, respectively, while in control group were 41.94%, 50.54%, respectively (χ2:5.38, 23.47 respectively; P<0.05 for both time points). After 6-month treatments, cure rate was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the controls (45.36% vs. 22.58%, χ2=10.95, P<0.01). No serious adverse event was observed in either group. Conclusion: Tincture of compound Flos Sophorae and Fructus Posraleae is safe and effective for stable sporadic vitiligo.
