This paper aims to investigate whether there are similarities or not in mission statement items which are used by SMEs for explaining reason of existence. For this purpose, content analysis was carried out for mission statements of the SMEs by using nine items (costumers, product, market, technology, survival, philosophy, self-concept, public image, and employees). As a result of the analysis, it was found that SMEs explaining reason of existence by using philosophy, self concept and technology items in mission statements and there are similarities in items used by SMEs in mission statements. Finally, suggestions for future research were made.
